The Voice

It is estimated that  of the population suffer from voice problems throughout their life. This can happen to anybody but is more common in individuals who have a high level of voice use. The voice can also be hoarse after viral infections, although this usually improves after 2-3 weeks. If your voice remains hoarse for several weeks, it is important to seek a review by an ENT doctor who will use a small camera to look at your voice box to find the cause.

How can voice therapy help me?

Voice therapists are qualified Speech and Language Therapists who have specialised in Laryngology. They liaise closely with ENT doctors in order to assess and diagnose your voice problem. A specific package of therapy techniques will then be provided by your voice therapist in order to improve vocal functioning or reduce poor vocal habits.

The aim is to give you back your normal voice as quickly as possible through the means of; breath flow, resonance, articulation, relaxation, laryngeal manipulation, physical tension release and many more.

How can speech therapy help me?

VSpeech therapy aims to support both the understanding and expression of language to help you communicate. In turn, this should help with confidence, wellbeing, independence, socialising and functioning. Speech therapy can also help you with a number of other issues such as swallowing and throat conditions. Problems such as aphasia (language problems), dysarthria (speech difficulty), dyspraxia (motor programming), stammering (dysfluency), dysphagia (swallowing problems), dysphonia (voice change) and more.
